Over 2700 kg rotten fish, chicken seized, destroyed in Jammu

Jammu, Aug 10: The Legal Metrology Department (LMD) and Food Safety Department have seized and destroyed over 2700 kg of rotten frozen fish and chicken in Jammu.

According to Deputy Controller LMD Enforcement, the seizure was made during joint inspections of fish and chicken markets in Jammu city on the directions of the J&K Government.

The seized expired material was destroyed as per SOP with a team of the Jammu Municipal Corporation at Kot Bhalwal dumping station.

The cases under the Legal Metrology Act were registered against the dealers for violation of various guidelines.

“A challan under Section 56 along with a notice under Section 32 was also recommended against the shopkeepers for violation of existing rules and acts,” the officer said.
