
Srinagar, Mar 26: The Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) women’s talent hunt is underway at the Sher-i-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar, witnessing an encouraging participation of over 175 aspiring women cricketers from across Kashmir.
The six-day selection programme, which commenced on March 23, will conclude on March 28. The initiative, as per the JKCA officials aims to identify and nurture emerging talent across multiple age groups, providing a structured pathway into the state’s competitive cricket framework.
According to JKCA officials, the turnout reflects growing interest in women’s cricket in the region. A total of 27 players have participated in the U-15 category, while the U-19 group has drawn 50 cricketers. In the U-23 category, 25 players have taken part, with a similar number, 25 featuring in the senior category.
The ongoing talent hunt is being supervised by Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) member Minu Salathia. Other members of the committee overseeing the process include Sarbjit Singh, Anuradha Sharma, Masrat Ahad, Henaan Maqbool, among others.
Officials said that following the completion of the Srinagar leg, the second phase of the talent hunt will be held in Jammu, where players from the Jammu division will be assessed in corresponding age categories.
JKCA officials said the initiative is part of JKCA’s broader efforts to strengthen the women’s cricket structure in J&K and to scout promising players for future assignments.
