On Ashura, SKIMS organises medical, blood donation camp at Alamgiri Bazar

Srinagar, Jul 6: In observance of Ashura, the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, organised a large-scale medical and blood donation camp on Sunday at the Auqaf Building, Alamgiri Bazar, Srinagar.

A statement of SKIMS issued here said that the camp provided essential healthcare services to around 650 patients from the local population.

The medical team included experienced specialists and super-specialists from general medicine, general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, and hospital administration, who offered on-the-spot consultations and treatment.

A key highlight of the event was the blood donation drive, which saw enthusiastic participation from Azadars and community volunteers.

A total of 35 blood units were donated during the camp, and more than 450 individuals registered as prospective donors for future drives, demonstrating strong public spirit and commitment to saving lives.

In addition to clinical evaluations, the camp featured a fully equipped pharmacy for the free distribution of medications, along with an IV drug and fluid infusion facility for patients requiring urgent intervention.

Point-of-care treatments and emergency resuscitation support were provided where necessary, ensuring that patients received comprehensive medical attention under one roof.

Patients requiring further evaluation or specialised care were enrolled for follow-up at SKIMS.

The camp’s success was driven by a coordinated multidisciplinary team, with key clinical responsibilities handled by Dr Zulfiqar Ali, Dr Saqib Mehdi, Dr Iflah Rafiq, Dr Mogisur Rahaman, Dr Adil Mir, Dr Mehrajuddin, Dr Tahir Mohiuddin, Dr Shahaan Iqbal, Dr Nazima Ashraf, Dr Rukiya Rashid, Dr Romana Rashid, Dr Daksh Bhandari, the SKIMS statement said.

It said that they, alongside nurses, pharmacists, paramedics, security staff, and sanitation personnel, ensured efficient and compassionate service delivery throughout the event.

Director SKIMS, Prof Muhammad Ashraf Ganai, and Medical Superintendent, Dr Farooq Ahmad Jan, visited the camp and reviewed the on-site arrangements, interacted with staff and patients, and joined the local community in honouring the solemnity and spirit of Ashura.
