Omar led government committed to relief, rehabilitation of flood-hit families: Sadhotra

Jammu, Sep 3: National Conference Additional General Secretary and former minister, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra visited several rain and flood-affected areas of Jammu and its periphery to personally take stock of the damages and assess the immediate needs of the people, said a press release.

During his visit to Mangu Chak and Khandwal, Sadhotra interacted with the affected families and reassured them that the Omar Abdullahled government is taking all possible steps to mitigate their sufferings and restore normalcy at the earliest.

Sadhotra said that the administration has been put on high alert on the directions of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is personally monitoring the situation round-the-clock. He said that the government’s priority is to ensure safety, relief, and rehabilitation of all those hit by the rains and floods. “Like during the devastating floods of 2014, Jenab Omar Abdullah is determined to steer the people out of this testing phase with courage, compassion, and resolve,” Sadhotra said.

The National Conference Additional General Secretary expressed deep solidarity with the sufferers, assuring them that the government remains fully committed to their cause. He said that the CM Omar Abdullah has always believed in putting people first, and therefore, every possible effort is being made to provide timely relief, medical care, and necessary support to families in distress.

Sadhotra reiterated that the National Conference stands shoulder to shoulder with the people in this hour of crisis. “Our government not only committed to immediate relief but also to long-term rehabilitation of those whose lives and livelihoods have been disrupted,” he said, adding that NC cadre at all levels have been directed to remain with the people and extend all possible assistance.

Highlighting the pressing issues of the flood-hit areas, Sadhotra urged the administration to immediately take up the matter with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) regarding the realignment of the Ring Road, which has become the prime cause of water logging in village Mangu Chak and adjoining localities. He said such man-made factors compounded the natural disaster and must be addressed urgently to prevent future suffering. Highlighting the proactive approach of the present dispensation, Sadhotra appreciated the officers for remaining in the field, identify the worst-hit families, and extend them urgent support without delay. He urged the administration for coordinating efforts to prevent outbreak of waterborne diseases in inundated areas, it said.
