SRINAGAR: A directive from the Kishtwar unit of the National Conference (NC), asking its workers not to “harass government employees” without prior approval from the District President, has stirred reactions on social media, from amusement to disbelief.
Who says we are an indisciplined party? We ensure our party rank & file don’t “harass government employees” without permission from our senior office bearers. 🫣😂😂 pic.twitter.com/RE3pHW8R8W

“All officials of NC Kishtwar are informed that without the consent of District President N.C Kishtwar, no one is authorised to harass any government employee of District Kishtwar without any proof. Hope all officials adhere to the circular,” it reads.
The unusual wording of the circular quickly grabbed attention online, especially after Chief Minister and NC Vice-President Omar Abdullah shared it on X (formerly Twitter), quipping:
“Who says we are an indisciplined party? We ensure our party rank & file don’t ‘harass government employees’ without permission from our senior office bearers. 🫣😂😂”
The post set off a wave of responses, with many users questioning the party’s tone and others taking it as a moment of unintended comic relief.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however, did not see the humour. It criticised the circular, calling it a direct endorsement of misconduct by party workers.
“This is an open direction for harassment of government officials by National Conference’s Kishtwar wing. Issuing such directions, even with prior approval, reflects misuse of authority and lack of accountability,” BJP spokesman Altaf Thakur said.
