Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday spoke with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to update him on the worsening flood situation in the Jammu region, where heavy rains have caused extensive damage and disruption.
“Spoke to @AmitShah ji on the phone to brief him about the situation in J&K, especially Jammu province, where heavy and continuous rains have caused a lot of damage and disruption to normal life,” Abdullah wrote on X.

He informed Shah about the breakdown in connectivity, noting that efforts are being made to restore phone and data services at the earliest.
Abdullah also expressed regret that he and his colleagues could not travel to Jammu due to the closure of the Jammu airport. “I hope to be able to get there on the first flight tomorrow,” he said, adding that he was closely monitoring developments and was in constant touch with ground teams.
In a separate post, the Chief Minister condoled the deaths of pilgrims killed in a landslide near the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. “Very sorry to hear about the deaths of the pilgrims on the Mata Vaishno Devi track. I send my condolences to the families of the deceased. May the souls of the deceased rest in peace,” he wrote.
The Jammu region has been battered by torrential rains, leading to flash floods and landslides that have claimed at least 10 lives, including six Vaishno Devi pilgrims. Many others are feared trapped.
The downpour has caused widespread havoc across Jammu as well as the Kashmir Valley. Bridges have collapsed, power poles and mobile towers have been uprooted, and the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage has been suspended due to the dangerous conditions.
