Northern Command chief chairs Core Group Security meeting in Jammu

Srinagar, Aug 17: Northern Command chief Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma on Sunday chaired a Core Group Security Review meeting in Nagrota, praising security forces for ensuring an incident-free Amarnath Yatra while urging intensified counterterror operations and stronger inter-agency coordination in the Jammu division.

The high-level meeting witnessed participation from senior officers of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Intelligence Bureau (IB), and other key security agencies. The senior officers of the security establishment who attended the Core Group meeting included Special DGP Coordination S J M Gillani, ADG CRPF Rajesh Kumar, and senior officers of other security agencies.

The review was focused on recent counter-terrorism operations, inter-agency coordination, and strategic preparedness to counter emerging threats in the Union Territory, particularly in Jammu division.

“The synergy among the security forces has been the cornerstone of recent operational successes,” Lt Gen Pratik Sharma was quoted as saying while commending the robust coordination between the Army, Police, and central armed police forces. “Our joint efforts have created a strong deterrence against terrorist elements. However, we must not let our guard down—intensified and sustained anti-terror operations are crucial to maintaining peace and eliminating threats completely.”

The Army Commander took the opportunity to laud all security agencies for ensuring an incident-free Amarnath Yatra 2025, describing it as a “model of collaborative security planning and flawless execution.” The yatra, which witnessed lakhs of pilgrims this year, concluded peacefully under a multilayered security umbrella.

While reviewing the internal security and counter-terror efforts, Lt Gen Sharma stressed the importance of deepening the connection between the security forces and local communities.

“Our men on the ground must continue to build trust with the local population. People’s support is our greatest strength in the fight against terror,” he said, urging units to enhance civil-military liaison through regular outreach and confidence-building measures.

The meeting also saw discussions on actionable intelligence sharing, surveillance enhancements, border security, and preparedness ahead of the winter infiltration season.

Senior officials reaffirmed their commitment to neutralizing threats and sustaining pressure on terror networks. The security establishment reiterated that operations will continue to be intelligence-led and people-friendly, with a focus on zero collateral damage and upholding human rights.
