Northern Army Commander, DGMO among SYSM awardees

Jammu, Aug 15: General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Northern Command, Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma and the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai were among seven senior officers of the Indian Armed Forces, who were awarded with Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal (SYSM) by the President of India on the eve of 79th Independence Day.

Other five SYSM awardees included Vice Admiral Sanjay Jasjit Singh (Navy); Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari, Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor, Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra and Air Marshal Awadhesh Kumar Bharti.

They were among the top brass of the Armed Forces who played a key role in the planning and execution of Operation Sindoor.

Notably on the eve of 79th Independence Day, the President Droupadi Murmu approved 127 Gallantry awards and 40 Distinguished Service awards to the Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces personnel.

These awards included 4 Kirti Chakras; 15 Vir Chakras; 16 Shaurya Chakras; 2 Bar to Sena Medals (Gallantry); 58 Sena Medals (Gallantry); 6 Nao Sena Medals (Gallantry); 26 Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry); 7 Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medals; 9 Uttam Yudh Seva Medals and 24 Yudh Seva Medals.

Deputy Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti was among Uttam Yudh Seva medal awardees.

The President also approved 290 Mention-in-Despatches – 115 personnel of the Indian Army, 5 of the Indian Navy, 167 of the Indian Air Force and 3 of the Border Roads Development Board (BRDB).
