Northern Army Commander assesses operational readiness, counter-terrorism grid

Jammu, Jan 29: Northern Army Commander, Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma on Thursday assessed evolving security dynamics in the region, including operational preparedness and robustness of counter terrorism grid, in a joint security review meeting at Nagrota.

During deliberations, tAXhe key stakeholders chalked out strategies to further bolster vigil, leveraging all available resources.

General Officer Commanding (GOC) White Knight Corps Lieutenant General P K Mishra; S J M Gillani, Special Director General Coordination PHQ, with additional charge of MD Police Housing Corporation, J&K and Bhim Sen Tuti, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu zone besides other senior officers of central paramilitary forces and agencies participated in the meeting.

“Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, Army Cdr NC, chaired a comprehensive joint Security Review Meeting with key stakeholders at Nagrota, to assess the evolving security dynamics in the region,” Northern Command posted on its ‘X’ handle.

“The forum discussed seamless synergy in Operations, joint combat readiness and strengthening of the Counter Terrorism grid,” it said, adding that the modalities for heightened alertness were also formulated, leveraging all available resources in the region.

Notably, on January 28, Western Army Commander Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar had visited the Bani-Macchedi sector in Kathua and complimented the army team involved in the killing of a dreaded Jaish terrorist on January 23, 2026.

Lt Gen Katiyar congratulated Sep XXX of the SIKH LI Regiment who had eliminated a dreaded JeM terrorist in a close encounter risking his own life. He complimented the whole team for the relentless pursuit of the terrorist over several days and the surgical execution of the operation, the Army had stated in an official statement.

The Army Commander was briefed by the Brigade Commander on plans for continued domination of the area.

“JeM terrorist Usman was eliminated by the Indian Army at Parhetar in Kathua district on January 23, 2026 at around 5 pm during the conduct of Op Parhetar,” the Army posted.

In a related development, on Wednesday, January 28, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) White Knight Corps Lieutenant General P K Mishra also visited Basantgarh in Udhampur district to review the prevailing security situation and further strengthen the ongoing counter-terrorism posture.

During the visit, he commended the troops of Delta Force for their high morale, professionalism and unwavering commitment to duty.

“The GOC urged all ranks to remain razor-sharp and proactive, adopting an unrelenting approach against terrorism. He emphasised exemplary operational conduct, constant vigilance and sustained readiness to effectively address emerging security challenges,” the White Knight Corps posted on its ‘X’ handle, with a collage of pictures.
