SRINAGAR: A Junior Resident doctor at the Associated Hospital of Government Medical College Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district has been suspended with immediate effect after a video surfaced showing a patient lying unattended on a trolley outside the hospital premises.

The footage, widely shared across social media platforms, triggered swift administrative action amid growing public concern.

Officials said that the doctor, who also held the additional charge of Hospital Security In-charge, was suspended pending the outcome of a rapid inquiry ordered by the administration. The authorities said the viral clip raised serious questions about patient handling and internal monitoring at the hospital.

A five-member committee comprising senior doctors and administrators has been constituted to conduct a time-bound investigation. The panel has been directed to examine the sequence of events that led to the incident and submit its report within a day. Hospital officials said further action would follow based on the committee’s findings. [KNT]
