
SRINAGAR: A court in north Kashmir’s Kupwara has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a minor girl in 2021, police said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Irshad Ahmad Mir, was convicted in a case registered under FIR No. 69/2021 at Police Station Kralgund.
The Principal District and Sessions Court, Kupwara, sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000 under Section 4(2) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He was also awarded three years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 363 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The sentences will run concurrently, officials said.
