SRINAGAR: The Traffic Police of Rural Kashmir on Tuesday took action against a public service vehicle (PSV) driver after a video showing rash and negligent driving went viral on social media in Bandipora district of North Kashmir, officials said.

According to officials, a Special Enforcement Team of Traffic Rural Kashmir, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Traffic Ganderbal–Bandipora, Gulzar Ahmad, intercepted the vehicle shortly after the video surfaced.

The operation was conducted under the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Rural Kashmir, Ravinder Pal Singh.

The vehicle was being driven by Manzoor Ahmed, son of Mohammad Ahsan, a resident of Saderkote Payeen in Bandipora. Officials said the video showed the driver engaging in rash and negligent driving, posing a risk to public safety.

Following the interception, the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) concerned issued a challan against the vehicle, and the driver’s licence was cancelled, officials added.

The SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir directed the enforcement team to deal with the matter strictly in accordance with prescribed norms, emphasising zero tolerance for rash and negligent driving across the jurisdiction.

Officials said special enforcement teams have been constituted to monitor violations and take action against errant drivers to ensure road safety. They also urged motorists to follow traffic rules and cooperate with enforcement agencies to prevent accidents and ensure safe movement on roads. (KNS)
