Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday dismissed claims regarding the removal of Urdu signboards from the entrance gates of chambers in the Civil Secretariat at Jammu and Srinagar.

In a written reply to a question raised by MLA Sheikh Khursheed Ahmad in the Legislative Assembly, the Minister Incharge of the Estates Department said that “it is not a fact that Urdu signboards have been removed from the entrance gates of the chambers in the Civil Secretariat, either in Jammu or Srinagar.”

The minister further stated that, in accordance with existing norms, trilingual signboards, featuring Urdu, English, and Hindi, have been installed to ensure equal representation of all official languages and to maintain uniformity across all chambers.

“Since Urdu continues to be displayed on these boards, the question of reinstallation does not arise,” the minister added.
