Srinagar: The administration on Wednesday assured that petrol, diesel and LPG supplies across the Kashmir division remain adequate, urging people not to resort to panic buying.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg said the stock position of essential petroleum products is being closely monitored on a daily basis by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs to ensure uninterrupted availability.
He said the valley currently has petrol and diesel stocks sufficient for more than 15 days, while LPG reserves are available for around 13 days. Garg added that the existing storage facilities in the division have the capacity to hold supplies that can last between 15 and 20 days at maximum levels.
Appealing to the public to remain calm, he urged people to rely on official information regarding the availability of essential commodities and avoid unnecessary rush at petrol pumps and LPG outlets.
Garg said that the restrictions imposed on commercial LPG cylinders do not apply to domestic consumers, hospitals or educational institutions, adding that there is no shortage of LPG for essential use in the region.
He further said that district administrations have activated control rooms and constituted special teams to check hoarding and black marketing of essential supplies, warning that strict action will be taken against violators.
The Divisional Commissioner also said the government is closely monitoring the market situation during the holy month of Ramadan and ahead of Eid, while enforcement teams have intensified inspections to ensure the availability, quality and fair pricing of essential commodities across Kashmir.
