SRINGAR: Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam has announced that the crescent was not sighted anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, and Eid ul Fitr will be observed on Saturday.
The announcement ended suspense across the Valley following Maghrib prayers.
He said no credible reports of moon sighting were received by the official moon-sighting committee. “With the crescent not sighted this evening, Eid ul Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday,” the Grand Mufti said.
The committee, which includes Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, confirmed the decision after reviewing inputs from various districts. Muslims across Jammu and Kashmir will celebrate Eid on Saturday.
