Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday informed that there is no plan under consideration to establish new migrant transit camps in the Kashmir Valley.
Replying to a query in the Legislative Assembly, the government said that employees appointed under the Prime Minister’s Package are being provided housing under the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP)-2015, with an emphasis on long-term residential complexes rather than temporary arrangements.
Official figures show that 6,000 residential units have been sanctioned at 20 locations across the Valley to meet the housing requirements of migrant employees. Of these, 4,096 units, nearly 68 per cent, had been completed as of December 31, 2025.
In North Kashmir, 1,368 units have been approved, with 1,104 completed at locations including Odina, Fatehpora, Kulangam and Natnussa. Central Kashmir has 1,608 sanctioned units, of which 1,400 have been completed at sites such as Kakanmaran, Sheikhpora, Babadaryadin, Wandhama and Zewan.
South Kashmir has 3,024 units sanctioned and 1,592 completed so far. These units are located at Machbawan, Ranbirpora, Shangus, Vessu, Chowgam, Mirhama, Lethpora and Allopora.
