Srinagar: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has reiterated its call to the Jammu and Kashmir administration to furnish an Action Taken Report (ATR) in connection with the security concerns raised by RTI activist Rasikh Rasool Bhat.
In its latest communication, the Commission noted that the Director General of Police (DGP) has not yet submitted the report despite earlier directions. It urged both the DGP and the Chief Secretary to ensure compliance within six weeks, as per the provisions of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993.
Bhat, an RTI and environmental activist from Ahgam Rajwar, Handwara, had approached the NHRC seeking protection, citing instances of intimidation, surveillance, and false complaints allegedly driven by influential elements. He has been vocal about reported irregularities in the Handwara–Bangus Road project.
Known for his advocacy on human rights and child rights, Bhat has been actively working on to promote transparency and accountability in different public works.
