SRINAGAR: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), the Union Territory’s primary road link, was completely blocked early Wednesday following a heavy landslide at Shalgari in Banihal.
According to an official traffic update issued at 6:30 AM, the landslide has rendered the highway impassable, bringing vehicular movement to a standstill. Authorities have advised commuters to avoid travel on the strategic route until restoration work is completed and the road is declared safe.
Traffic Police have urged the public not to rely on unverified information and instead check real-time updates through official communication channels, including their Twitter handle @Traffic_hqrs and the Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police Facebook page.
For assistance and updates, commuters can contact the Traffic Control Units (TCUs) at Jammu, Srinagar, and Ramban through designated helpline numbers.
Efforts are expected to be underway to clear the debris, though no immediate timeline for reopening the highway has been announced.
