Srinagar, Feb 25: Senior BJP leader and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Er Ghulam Ali Khatana has criticised Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, alleging “step-motherly treatment” towards several Assembly segments across the Union Territory.
Khatana alleged that despite the allocation of Rs 84.41 crore for his native area to strengthen infrastructure, healthcare, water supply, sanitation, education, and road connectivity, the ground situation reflects negligence and lack of visible development. He questioned why even basic amenities remain either negligible or completely absent in many regions.
He raised concerns about disparities affecting people belonging to Rajouri-Poonch, the erstwhile Doda region, Baramulla–Kupwara parliamentary constituency, and Anantnag. He questioned whether the people of these areas are being deliberately deprived of essential infrastructure and development facilities. Khatana further stated that the people had given a popular mandate to the NC-led government, but unfortunately, according to him, the present administration has failed to deliver on its promises. He alleged that while common citizens struggle for basic services, certain ministers are operating with large official fleets, enjoying perks and privileges, and misusing departmental vehicles without adequate presence on the ground.
He demanded transparency in fund utilization, equitable development across all Assembly segments, and immediate corrective measures to ensure that infrastructure, healthcare, water supply, sanitation, education, and road connectivity are strengthened in underserved areas.
