SRINAGAR: The National Medical Commission has removed the names of four doctors from Jammu Kashmir from the Indian Medical Register and the National Medical Register after an FIR was registered against them under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. The development was formally announced through a public notice issued by the NMC on Friday.
According to the notice, the doctors whose registrations have been cancelled include Dr Muzaffar Ahmad, bearing registration number 14680 issued in 2017, Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather, bearing registration number 15892 issued in 2019, Dr Muzamil Shakeel, bearing registration number 15130 issued in 2018, and Dr Shaheen Saeed, bearing registration number 45961 issued in 2022. The cancellation orders were issued on November 14, 2025 by the National Medical Commission Ethics Board.
The NMC stated that the action was taken in view of an FIR registered under the UAPA, though no further details were mentioned in the public notice regarding the nature of the allegations or the agency handling the investigation. The Commission has not clarified whether the doctors will have the option to appeal the decision or seek restoration of their registration at a later stage depending on the outcome of the investigation.
The removal of names from the IMR and NMR effectively bars the doctors from practising medicine anywhere in India until their registration is reinstated. Medical professionals struck off the national registers are not permitted to prescribe medication, offer clinical services or hold medical posts in any government or private institution.
The public notice, issued from the NMC headquarters in Dwarka, New Delhi, bears the signature of Rajiv Sharma, Secretary In Charge of the Ethics Board. [KNT]
