SRINAGAR: Moderate voter turnout was recorded in the ongoing Assembly by-elections in Jammu Kashmir on Tuesday, with Nagrota constituency registering 34.47 per cent and Budgam 21.74 per cent polling by 11 a.m., according to the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Officials said that polling began peacefully at 7 a.m. across both constituencies amid tight security arrangements. Voters, including women and elderly citizens, were seen queuing outside polling stations to exercise their franchise.

In Nagrota, long queues were witnessed in several polling stations, particularly in rural belts, contributing to a relatively higher turnout compared to Budgam. Meanwhile, in Budgam, polling remained slow in the early hours but was expected to pick up pace as the day progressed.

Election authorities reported that the polling process was running smoothly, with no incidents of violence or technical disruptions. Additional security personnel have been deployed at sensitive polling stations to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful voting process.

The counting of votes for both constituencies will take place on November 14, the officials added.
