
SRINAGAR: A day-long enforcement drive by the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) across nine districts of Jammu division resulted in the checking of 2,494 vehicles, issuance of 445 challans, seizure of 60 vehicles and recovery of Rs 18.18 lakh in penalties, officials said on Sunday.
During the operation, enforcement teams established 24 nakas at strategic locations across the districts of Jammu, Udhampur, Samba, Reasi, Rajouri, Poonch, Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda. In addition to the challans and vehicle seizures, 64 driving licences (DLs) and 20 registration certificates (RCs) were recommended for suspension for serious violations.
Enforcement teams checked 400 vehicles in jammu district, issuing 44 challans and seizing two vehicles. Five driving licences were recommended for suspension, while Rs 1.86 lakh was realised as penalty.
A total of 260 vehicles were inspected in Udhampur, resulting in 47 challans and five vehicle seizures. Authorities recommended suspension of nine driving licences and five RCs, collecting Rs 2.90 lakh in penalties.
Officials checked 163 vehicles in Samba and issued 31 challans. Five driving licences were recommended for suspension, while penalties amounting to rs 2.43 lakh were realised.
Teams inspected 300 vehicles in Reasi, issuing 43 challans and seizing four vehicles. Ten driving licences were recommended for suspension and Rs 2.24 lakh was recovered in penalties.
In Rajouri, 26 vehicles were checked, resulting in 52 challans and 11 vehicle seizures. Authorities recommended suspension of two driving licences, with rs 1.14 lakh collected as penalties.
Officials inspected 280 vehicles in Poonch, issuing 52 challans and seizing six vehicles. Seven driving licences were recommended for suspension and Rs 1.07 lakh was realised in penalties.
A total of 250 vehicles were checked in ramban, leading to 50 challans and four vehicle seizures. Four driving licences were recommended for suspension, while Rs 1.46 lakh was collected in fines.
Authorities inspected 410 vehicles in Kishtwar district, issuing 37 challans and seizing 14 vehicles. Five driving licences and three RCs were recommended for suspension, with penalties of Rs 1.04 lakh realised.
Doda recorded the highest enforcement action, with 405 vehicles checked, 89 challans issued and 14 vehicles seized. Authorities recommended suspension of 17 driving licences and 12 RCs, while Rs 4.04 lakh was collected as penalties.
Officials said the district-level enforcement teams were headed by the respective Assistant Regional Transport Officers (ARTOs) along with Motor Vehicle Inspectors and enforcement staff. The overall operation in Jammu district was supervised by RTO Jammu Jasmeet Singh.
The Transport Department said such enforcement drives are conducted regularly to curb violations such as overloading, driving without valid documents, permit violations, over speeding and dangerous driving, and urged motorists to follow traffic rules and carry valid documents while operating vehicles.
