SRINAGAR: Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid on Tuesday raised concerns in Parliament over the absence of basic mobile connectivity in several border areas of North Kashmir, saying residents continue to suffer due to what he termed long-standing governmental neglect.

Speaking during the session, the MP, currently lodged in Tihar Jail, said that regions such as Karnah, Machil, Gurez and Uri lack even basic mobile towers. “Forget 5G or 4G; even basic connectivity is missing. There is no network at all,” he told the House.

He cited the situation in Gujjarpati village, noting that he had seen television reports from jail showing residents appealing to the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister for five consecutive days for phone access. “Why should border areas in Kupwara and Baramulla suffer?” he asked, urging the Union Minister concerned to act immediately.

Engineer Rashid also told the House that, despite the Ministry’s claim of sending letters to all MPs, he had received none. “I am an MP from Tihar Jail, yet I have not received any such letter. Let us also convey our pain,” he remarked.
