Srinagar: Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Jammu and Kashmir National Conference leader Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan has written to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, seeking a scheduled stoppage of the Vande Bharat Express at Anantnag Railway Station.
In his letter dated December 12, 2025, Chaudhary highlighted Anantnag’s importance as a major administrative and commercial centre of South Kashmir, serving a substantial population from nearby districts.
The JKNC MP maintained that while the rollout of Vande Bharat services has considerably improved rail connectivity in the region, the absence of a halt at Anantnag has continued to inconvenience regular commuters and travellers.
Terming Anantnag the gateway to South Kashmir, the MP underlined its pivotal role in tourism, horticulture and trade. He said that inclusion of the station as a scheduled stop would enhance passenger convenience, improve regional connectivity and provide a boost to tourism as well as local economic activity.
Chaudhary Ramzan, who is also a member of the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs, urged the Railway Minister to consider the long-pending public demand and approve Anantnag Railway Station as a halt for the Vande Bharat Express, while expressing hope that the matter would receive due consideration in the larger public interest.
