New Delhi: Member of Parliament and Jammu and Kashmir National Conference leader Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan on Wednesday attended a meeting of floor leaders of the INDIA Alliance and reaffirmed his party’s firm support to the alliance.
Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan, a Rajya Sabha MP and Additional General Secretary of JKNC, said the party has stood consistently with the INDIA Alliance, guided by commitment to the Constitution, secular values, and democratic principles. He said the support has remained unchanged even during politically difficult periods.
He said this commitment should be reflected in reciprocal support from alliance partners, particularly in raising the concerns of Jammu and Kashmir at the national level.
During the meeting, he appealed to major alliance partners, including Congress, DMK, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, and other senior leaders, to actively raise political, developmental, and social issues of Jammu and Kashmir in Parliament. He urged them to use their speaking time to ensure these issues receive sustained attention in the House and across the country.
Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan also flagged ongoing democratic concerns in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that despite elections after a prolonged gap, effective powers remain vested with the Lieutenant Governor, leading to dual control and reducing the authority of the elected government. He said this situation weakens federalism and undermines the democratic mandate of the people.
He expressed confidence that alliance partners, especially those with greater parliamentary presence, would act in the spirit of unity and constitutional responsibility by giving due importance to Jammu and Kashmir’s concerns.
