Jammu, Feb 14: The District Magistrate of Kathua has imposed restrictions on unnecessary movement within a 5-kilometre radius of the International Border for 60 days, citing a sensitive security situation and the possibility of cross-border firing, officials said on Saturday.

District Magistrate Kathua, Rajesh Sharma imposed restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

As per the order issued by DM Kathua, the restrictions will apply in the Area of Responsibility stretching from BOP Paharpur Forward to BOP Karol Krishna.

The decision has been taken citing the possibility of cross-border firing and the need to ensure the safety of villagers and maintain public tranquillity.

In addition, the order reads, movement of heavy vehicles including trucks, tippers and multi-axle vehicles has been prohibited on the old Samba–Kathua road between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM.

” The order has come into immediate effect from February 14 and will remain in force for a period of 60 days from the date of issuance, unless rescinded earlier,” reads the order.

The District Magistrate stated that prior notice could not be served due to urgency and the order has been issued ex-parte in the interest of public safety.

Any violation of the directions shall attract punitive action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, DM further mentioned in the order.
