Srinagar: Life across Jammu and Kashmir was thrown into disarray yesterday when mobile networks collapsed following intense cloudbursts in parts of the Jammu division. The blackout began around 3:50 PM on Tuesday, cutting off calls and internet for lakhs of subscribers.
For nearly 22 hours, cell phones across the Valley and Jammu region remained eerily silent. Jio and BSNL struggled to keep patchy services alive, but Airtel, the dominant operator in the region, went completely dark. Its network was restored only around 2:30 PM on Wednesday, finally bringing relief to stranded users.
The disruption caused not just personal inconvenience but also serious hurdles for businesses, students, and those needing emergency access to medical or travel services. Families across the region were left anxious, unable to reach loved ones or share urgent updates.
Officials have linked the breakdown to damage inflicted on telecom infrastructure by multiple cloudbursts amid unprecedented rainfall.
