
Ramban, Dec 16: A man who had gone missing from Ukhral was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a deep nullah near Ukhral Morh in the Magarkote area on Tuesday, prompting police to initiate an investigation.
The deceased has been identified as Pawan Singh, son of Paras Ram, a resident of Senabati, Ukhral, in tehsil Pogal Paristan of Ramban district.
According to sources, Singh had left his home a few days ago and could not be traced thereafter. After nearly two days of search operations, his body was spotted in a deep gorge near Ukhral Morh.
Following the information, a team from Ramsu Police, led by the Station House Officer (SHO), along with personnel from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and local volunteers, rushed to the spot and retrieved the body from the gorge.
The body was shifted to the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Ukhral, where it was identified by family members and local residents.
Police officials said that during the search operation, conducted with the assistance of VDG, CRPF, SDRF Banihal, and police personnel, the body was recovered from a nullah after an apparent fall from a straight cliff measuring approximately 35 metres in height.
In this connection, an inquest proceeding has been initiated vide DDR No. 10 dated 16/12/2025 under Section 194 of the BNNS to ascertain the actual cause of death. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further details are awaited.
Police have stated that all aspects of the incident are being investigated to determine the exact cause and circumstances leading to the death.
