
Pulwama, Jan 14: The body of a man who had been missing since the previous day was found hanging under mysterious circumstances at Chatapora Crossing in Pulwama on Wednesday, triggering concern among locals and prompting a police investigation.
Official sources said the deceased has been identified as Shahnawaz Manzoor Bhat, aged 33, a resident of Zasow village of Pulwama. He was reported missing by his family since Tuesday afternoon, and efforts were underway to trace his whereabouts before the body was recovered.
Police teams rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the body hanging near the crossing. The area was immediately cordoned off, and preliminary proceedings were carried out on site in the presence of officials. The body was later taken into custody and shifted to a nearby health facility for medico-legal formalities, including post-mortem examination, to ascertain the exact cause of death.
A police official said that all possible angles are being examined, and proceedings under relevant sections of law have been initiated. “The circumstances leading to the death are being thoroughly investigated. The post-mortem report and other technical evidence will play a crucial role in determining the sequence of events,” the official said. [KNT]
