Mega Sports Festival showcases talent in Baramulla

Srinagar, Jun 22: The vibrant energy of Varmul Gindo 2025, a month-long multi-sport festival, has set north Kashmir’s Baramulla district abuzz with enthusiasm, as over 1600 young athletes showcase their sporting talent across more than 20 disciplines.

Organised jointly by the J&K Sports Council, District Sports Association Baramulla, and the Indian Army, the festival was officially inaugurated on June 17 at the Indoor Stadium Khoja Bagh, near Prof Showkat Ali Stadium. Since then, the festival has witnessed an overwhelming response from school and college students, drawing participants and spectators alike to various buzzing venues.

“This is a great platform for budding athletes and those who’ve been in sports for years. It’s motivating and builds a healthy sporting culture,” said Mohsin Khan, one of the enthusiastic participants.

From volleyball to martial arts, snooker to hockey, the youth are taking to the fields and courts with full intensity, turning the event into a celebration of athleticism and community spirit. The Elite Club has already made waves in volleyball, registering a commanding 3–0 win over Welkins and a thrilling four-set victory against Spartan Baramulla, asserting their dominance early in the tournament.

At the B-Town Club, where snooker tournaments are underway, local players like Azam, Zaid, and Salman have emerged as crowd favourites, impressing audiences with their precision and poise. Their talent is earning them recognition well beyond the district.

The atmosphere at the Indoor Stadium Khoja Bagh has remained electric, with daily crowds cheering on athletes, creating a strong sense of camaraderie and competition. Multiple venues across the district are alive with the sounds of encouragement, showcasing the district’s growing passion for sports.

The Varmul Gindo festival is not just about medals—it’s about momentum. The sporting spirit it has unleashed is already being hailed by locals as a turning point for Baramulla’s youth engagement and talent development.
