Master plans for Jammu, Srinagar capital cities notified: CM Omar

Jammu, Feb 12: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday stated that the J&K government had notified master plans of two capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar, besides Udhampur and Katra towns, while the formulation of GIS based master plan was approved for 25 more towns.

The information was shared by him in the J&K Legislative Assembly, in a written reply to the National Conference MLA from Pattan, Javaid Riyaz Bedar.

“Jammu and Kashmir has notified master plans of Jammu and Srinagar capital cities and Udhampur and Katra towns as of now. Under AMRUT 2.0, twenty-five more towns, including Pattan, have been approved for the formulation of GIS-based master plans. The work is at different stages in respect of each city,” the Chief Minister remarked.

He said that the award of work for the formulation of the master plan of Pattan was made to the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) Bhopal, with whom agreement was executed on September 10, 2025, and the completion time was 6 months.

“Local area plan has been finalised, and work is in progress,” CM Omar shared.

“Besides, master plans for major tourism development authorities in the Union Territory, including Patnitop, Pahalgam, Sonamarg and Gulmarg have already been formulated, notified and are under implementation to ensure planned development, infrastructure upgradation and systematic beautification of these tourist destinations by Tourism Department,” the Chief Minister, who is also the Minister in-charge of Housing and Urban Development Department, stated.
