Kupwara: The Tehsil administration Lalpora on Monday conducted a market checking drive in Lalpora, Diver and adjoining areas of Lolab to ensure adherence to market regulations and protect consumer interests, amid ongoing Ramadan month.
The drive was carried out under the supervision of Naib Tehsildar Lalpora Zakir Ahmad along with TSO Sogam Gulzar Ahmad Wani, SHO Lalpora Showkat Ahmad Darzi and officials from different departments. The inspection was conducted following directions from Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Shrikant Balasaheb Suse.
During the drive, the inspection team checked various shops and business establishments to verify compliance with government guidelines regarding prices and quality of essential commodities. Officials also examined the availability of rate lists and the condition of food items being sold in the market.
Shopkeepers were directed to display updated rate lists at visible places and ensure that essential commodities are sold at approved prices. Traders were warned against overcharging customers and selling expired or substandard food items.
During the inspection, expired food items were seized and destroyed on the spot. Fines were imposed on several shopkeepers found violating market norms. The team also issued strict warnings to traders, cautioning them that any violation of rules will invite strict action.
Officials said the purpose of the drive was to ensure fair trade practices and prevent exploitation of consumers. They stressed that maintaining quality standards and transparency in pricing is essential for protecting the interests of the public.
The administration said such market inspection drives will continue in different areas to monitor market practices and ensure the availability of essential commodities at fair and reasonable prices.
