Srinagar: A court in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district has awarded a 20-year sentence of rigorous imprisonment to a man convicted under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, officials said.
The Principal Sessions Judge, Ganderbal, as per officials, convicted Rouf Ahmad Ganaie, son of Bashir Ahmad Ganaie and a resident of Takiya Khalmulla, Nagbal, under Sections 3 and 4 of the POCSO Act. “In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on the convict.”
Officials said the conviction followed an effective prosecution that successfully established the charges during the trial. “The case was argued on behalf of the prosecution by Public Prosecutors Shafat Ahmad Bhat and Jehangir Rafiqi,” they said.
“The investigation was carried out by Sub-Inspector Mohammad Akbar, whose diligent probe and collection of evidence were cited as crucial in securing the conviction,” the officials added.
