Srinagar: A 45-year-old man is feared dead after being trapped inside a well in Sogam area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday afternoon.
According to officials, the incident took place at Lassipora village in Sogam while two men were engaged in dredging a well. “One of them, identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Sofi (20), was rescued in time. However, the other, Abdul Rashid Sofi (45), resident of Daramwari, remains trapped inside and is presumed dead,” an official told Alfaaz – The Words.
A rescue operation is underway with teams from SDRF, Sogam Police, Army’s 28 RR, Fire and Emergency Services Sogam, and local volunteers striving to retrieve the trapped man.
UPDATE: The SDRF team has retrieved the body, with the local authorities having shifted it to a nearby health facility for necessary medico-legal formalities.
