SRINAGAR: Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Kumar Sharma on Tuesday criticised the National Conference-led government in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, alleging that it was evading accountability by blaming the Union Government whenever questioned about its own performance.
Speaking in the House, Sharma said that in a democratic setup, the government is responsible for responding to legitimate demands from the opposition and addressing public concerns. “It is a tragedy when the opposition questions the government and, instead of replying, the government starts pointing fingers at Delhi to avoid responsibility,” he said.
Sharma described the budget as a repetition of “decades-old lies” and claimed it had failed to meet the expectations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that 80 percent of the budget is comprised of central schemes, including Rs 58,000 crore in grants, which the government had presented as capital expenditure without any concrete plan or vision.
He also criticised cuts in allocations for various departments, particularly those affecting rural areas that suffered floods last year. Sharma raised concerns over unfulfilled promises, including free electricity and 12 gas cylinders, and noted the absence of specific schemes for unemployed youth.
“The government has shown dreams to the youth, but there is nothing concrete in the budget for them,” he said, labelling it the work of a “visionless administration.”
