Kupwara: Stepping up its fight against the drug menace, Lolab Police on Tuesday launched a massive drive against narcotic cultivation and destroyed large tracts of bhang (cannabis) plants in several forest areas of Lolab.
The operation, carried out under the directions of SSP Kupwara Ghulam Jeelani Wani, covered Warnow Bagh Wootwari, Amri Bagh Aadha, Wootwari Behak, Amri Behak, Dattan Behak, Zaban Behak and adjoining locations. Police teams led by DySP Sogam Javid Ahmad, SHO Kuligam and SHO Lalpora uprooted bhang spread over hundreds of kanals of forest land, which had been illegally cultivated.
Officials, as per Alfaaz – The Words, said the campaign forms part of a sustained strategy to curb narcotics production in the district. “Kupwara Police is fully committed to rooting out the cultivation and trade of narcotics. These operations will continue in full force in the days ahead,” an official said.
Police have also appealed to the public to support the campaign by reporting instances of illegal cultivation and discouraging such practices. “Eradicating the drug menace requires collective responsibility. Society as a whole must stand together to safeguard our youth from this social evil,” the officials said.
