SRINAGAR: The official residence of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, earlier known as Raj Niwas, has been officially renamed Lok Niwas, underscoring a shift toward more people-oriented governance in the Union Territory.

The announcement was made on Sunday by Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta, who described the change as a step aimed at strengthening citizen engagement and promoting inclusive development.

“A historic moment for Ladakh. Today, Raj Niwas has been officially renamed as Lok Niwas, symbolising our deep commitment to people-centric governance and inclusive development,” the Office of the Lt Governor said in a post on X.

The social media post also featured a photograph of the Lt Governor standing next to a newly installed nameplate bearing the new title at the entrance of the premises.

Officials said the renaming reflects the administration’s resolve to enhance transparency and accessibility, adding that the move is aimed at reinforcing the connection between the government and the people it serves.
