SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has cancelled the drug sale licences of four pharmaceutical wholesalers found involved in unauthorised procurement and distribution of controlled substances such as Tapentadol and Pregabalin.

The action comes following targeted inspections conducted by the Drug Control Department as part of the administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug abuse and diversion of psychotropic substances. The erring firms were found to have sourced and sold these drugs from neighbouring states without maintaining the mandatory purchase and sale records, a clear violation of regulatory norms.

State Drugs Controller and Controlling Authority, Lotika Khajuria, ordered the cancellation of licences of the following pharmaceutical establishments: M/s Health Ways Pharma (Rajouri), M/s Nuegene Pharmaceutical Distributors (Kansipora, Baramulla), M/s N.T Traders (New Colony, Sopore, Baramulla), and M/s Essence Pharmaceutical Distributors (Zampakadal Chattbal, Srinagar).

“These enforcement measures are part of the department’s uncompromising approach to safeguarding public health, especially protecting vulnerable populations from the dangers of prescription drug misuse,” said Khajuria.

She stressed that any act which contributes to drug misuse or circumvents legal obligations will invite the strictest possible action, in line with the Government’s ongoing efforts to combat substance abuse.

The Drugs Control Department has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any unethical practices related to prescription drug sales to their official helpline at [email protected].
