SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday said the Jammu and Kashmir government remains firmly focused on tackling unemployment, bridging infrastructure gaps and strengthening social welfare.

Addressing MLAs in the Central Hall of the JK Legislative Assembly complex, Sinha said the government, in its first year, has aimed to balance development with dignity, growth with social justice, and progress with peace. He said the administration, guided by inclusive governance, is pursuing these priorities with renewed commitment.

The LG said a humane and compassionate approach has been adopted in dealing with issues concerning citizens, with an emphasis on fairness, dignity and sensitivity in governance. He added that matters related to employees, daily wagers, contractual workers and marginalised sections have been reviewed empathetically, and corrective measures initiated where necessary.

Sinha said reservation reforms have enhanced representation and inclusivity in public institutions, while special focus is being given to tribal welfare through hostels, Eklavya Model Residential Schools, scholarships and implementation of the Forest Rights Act.

He described the past year as a key milestone in Jammu and Kashmir’s democratic journey, marked by the formation of an elected government after several years. According to him, the return to popular governance has strengthened public faith in democratic institutions and participatory decision-making.

The LG said the government has also prioritised responsive, people-centric administration, citing regular public grievance redressal meetings and the strengthening of the JK Samadhan portal, through which thousands of grievances have been resolved.

He stressed that good governance remains central to the government’s development strategy, with sustained reforms in transparency, accountability, digital governance and citizen-focused service delivery improving public trust and institutional efficiency.

This was Sinha’s third address to the JK Assembly since the formation of the NC-led government. The address, prepared by the elected government, outlines policies, achievements and plans, and is mandated under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019.
