SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday attended the 32nd meeting of the Northern Zonal Council (NZC) in Faridabad, Haryana, held under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah.
The meeting opened with tributes and a two-minute silence in memory of the victims of the car bomb blast near Red Fort and the accidental explosion at Nowgam Police Station in Jammu and Kashmir.
Reiterating the Prime Minister’s vision that strong states are the foundation of a strong nation, the union Home Minister Amit Shah stressed the crucial role of zonal councils in fostering coordination, cooperation, and policy alignment among states. He noted that these councils have played an instrumental role in resolving numerous inter-state issues and continue to contribute significantly to effective governance.
Amit Shah also highlighted pressing challenges requiring immediate attention, including delays in justice delivery for crimes against women and children, malnutrition, and stunting. Emphasizing the urgency of fast-tracking investigations and disposal of cases under the POCSO Act, he underscored that no civilized society can accept heinous crimes targeting women and minors.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of women and children, Shah called for an increase in the number of Fast Track Special Courts (FTSCs) to ensure quicker and more effective justice. (KINS)
