SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday extended greetings to the people on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, with the Chief Minister also conveying wishes on Nauroz, urging citizens to uphold values of compassion, unity and communal harmony.

In his message, the Lieutenant Governor said that Eid-ul-Fitr marks the culmination of the holy month of Ramzan and carries deep spiritual and social significance. He said the festival embodies the spirit of sacrifice, compassion and sharing, and called upon people to recommit themselves to the service of humanity, particularly in uplifting the poor and the needy. He expressed hope that the occasion would usher in peace, prosperity and happiness for all.

Extending greetings, the Chief Minister conveyed his wishes to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and those celebrating across the globe on Eid-ul-Fitr and Nauroz. He highlighted the spiritual importance of Eid as a divine celebration following a month of fasting, prayers and self-discipline during Ramadan, and said the festival is an occasion to express gratitude to the Almighty while reinforcing values of compassion, generosity and unity.

“Eid is a joyous occasion that brings people together to celebrate the blessings of Ramadan. It strengthens the bonds of community and reaffirms the values of mutual respect and brotherhood. It is a time to spread happiness, extend kindness and lend a helping hand to those in need,” he said.

The Chief Minister added that the festival reflects the rich ethos of communal harmony, shared heritage and cultural inclusivity that defines Jammu and Kashmir, strengthening the spirit of unity and peace. He prayed for lasting peace, sustained progress and prosperity for the people of the Union Territory and extended best wishes to all celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr worldwide.

On the occasion of Nauroz, he said the festival marks the arrival of spring and the beginning of the Persian New Year, symbolising renewal, hope and harmony. He noted that it is celebrated with enthusiasm in various parts of the region and reflects a rich cultural heritage and spirit of togetherness. He prayed for sustained peace, development and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir and expressed hope that the festival would bring joy and positivity to every household.
