SRINAGAR: The Government of India on Wednesday stated that funds under minority welfare schemes are not allocated on a Union Territory basis. It added that Ladakh has received Rs 15.98 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) over the past three financial years.

In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, the Ministry of Minority Affairs said Rs 3.06 crore was released in 2023-24 and Rs 12.92 crore in 2024-25 for Ladakh, while no funds were released in 2022-23.

The Ministry clarified that PMJVK is a demand-driven scheme aimed at developing community infrastructure in minority-concentrated areas, covering sectors such as education, health, skill development, and livelihood. It noted that under the PM VIKAS scheme, no expenditure has been made in Ladakh so far, as the UT administration has not submitted any project proposals.

The government also highlighted that Ladakhi artisans have participated in Lok Samvardhan Parvs, events organised to promote minority crafts and provide market and credit linkages.

The National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC) has allocated Rs 10 crore each for 2024-25 and 2025-26 for Ladakh after the UT nominated SIDCO as its State Channelising Agency. Of this, Rs 1 crore was drawn in 2024-25, while Rs 4.19 crore has been utilised in the current financial year, according to the Ministry.
