LEH: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, chaired two high-level meetings today to review the Union Territory’s security situation and discuss new measures for developing Ladakh as a leading winter tourism and adventure sports destination.
During the security review held in Leh, Gupta said that the overall situation in Ladakh remains peaceful, with normal functioning of schools, offices, and markets. He directed officials to maintain vigilance and continue focusing on peace, public safety, and development across the region.
Appreciating the cooperation of the local population and the efforts of security forces, the Lieutenant Governor called for sustained coordination among civil and security agencies to uphold law and order. He underlined that community participation was essential for maintaining peace and harmony, urging citizens to report suspicious activities and support the administration in safeguarding Ladakh’s stability.
Gupta emphasised that public vigilance was a key pillar of Ladakh’s continued peace and development. He urged residents to preserve the Union Territory’s cultural and environmental heritage while contributing to its progress. “Peaceful coexistence and active community engagement will ensure that Ladakh continues to prosper safely,” he said.
He assured that the administration would balance security measures with the everyday needs of citizens, ensuring minimal disruption to normal life while upgrading public safety infrastructure. The Lieutenant Governor called on people to join local initiatives promoting social harmony and sustainable growth.
Concluding the meeting, Gupta said that Ladakh’s progress depends on the collective efforts of the administration, security forces, and citizens. He appealed to the public to maintain unity and patience and to continue supporting efforts that sustain the region’s longstanding peace.
In a separate meeting later in the day, Gupta reviewed plans to transform Ladakh into a premier destination for winter tourism and adventure sports. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Dr Pawan Kotwal, Secretary Youth Services and Sports Bhanu Prabha, and Chief Engineer PWD Abdul Mutalib.
He said the administration is working to establish Chair Lifts at Drass and Surface Ski Lifts at Zanskar to enhance winter sports facilities and attract global adventure enthusiasts. Terming the initiative a milestone for Alpine and Nordic sports in Ladakh, he said it would boost employment and place the Union Territory firmly on the global winter tourism map.
Gupta reiterated his commitment to developing sustainable, high-altitude sports infrastructure that empowers youth and supports local livelihoods. He directed officials to ensure timely completion of projects while maintaining environmental and safety standards.
He also stressed the need to promote Ladakh as a year-round adventure destination through innovative tourism models, community engagement, and sustainable practices. “Winter tourism should go hand in hand with the promotion of local culture, handicrafts, and hospitality, ensuring that its benefits reach every section of the community while preserving the region’s pristine environment,” he said.
Calling for coordination among government departments, private stakeholders, and local communities, the Lieutenant Governor said the administration aims to make Ladakh a world-class hub for winter adventure, sports excellence, and sustainable tourism.
