Srinagar: Authorities in Anantnag have halted the sale of a widely consumed biscuit brand after a laboratory analysis declared the product unsafe for consumption.
The Food Safety Department initiated action following routine inspections during which a sample was lifted by the Food Safety Officer.
According to officials, as per GNS, the sample ‘Priyagold Butter Delite’, batch number E25KPO2FB, was examined at the National Food Laboratory, Ghaziabad, where Report No. JK-665/DEC/25/786 dated 05-12-2025 confirmed sulphite content beyond the permissible limit.
Excess sulphite levels, officials said, can pose health concerns, and the manufacturing or sale of such items violates Section 3(1)(zz)(xi) of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA), 2006.
Acting under Section 36(3)(b) of the Act, Designated Officer Sheikh Zameer Ahmad has ordered an immediate ban on the sale of the concerned batch across Anantnag. Traders, wholesalers, and retailers have been instructed to remove the product from shelves without delay and ensure full compliance with the directive.
The department has also cautioned consumers to avoid purchasing the specified batch until further orders. (GNS)
