Kupwara: In its ongoing crackdown on the menace of drugs, Kupwara Police on Thursday foiled a narcotics smuggling attempt and arrested two persons after recovering contraband substances from their possession.
According to officials, a police naka was laid at Halpal road near Masjid Murshideen, where two individuals coming from Bumhama towards Kupwara were intercepted under suspicious circumstances. On noticing the naka, the duo attempted to flee but were swiftly apprehended by the alert police personnel.
Upon their personal search, a heroin-like substance was recovered. The arrested individuals have been identified as Umair Ibn Fayaz, son of Fayaz Ahmad Mir of Regipora, and Kashif Ul Islam, son of Mohd Sultan Bhat of Batergam.
Police said that a case under FIR No. 266/2025 has been registered at Police Station Kupwara under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, while further investigation is underway.
Reiterating its commitment to eradicate the drug menace from society, Kupwara Police appealed to the public to cooperate and share any information regarding drug peddling or related activities.
