Kupwara Admin issues ​weather, urges public to stay alert

​Kupwara, Aug 19: The District Administration of Kupwara has issued a comprehensive advisory and placed all line departments on high alert in anticipation of heavy to very heavy rainfall as forecast by the IMD.

​In a public advisory issued by Deputy Commissioner Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, residents have been urged to take necessary precautions.

The advisory cautions against unnecessary travel, especially in hilly and landslide-prone areas, and strictly prohibits venturing close to water bodies, including rivers, streams, and irrigation canals, due to the risk of rising water levels.

Fishermen and construction workers operating near water bodies have been explicitly barred from work until the weather improves.

​The administration has also directed all line departments to be prepared for any eventuality.

The PWD/R&B Department has been instructed to keep men and machinery on standby for road clearance, while the I&FC Department is tasked with monitoring water levels and inspecting embankments.

PHE and KPDCL departments are directed to ensure uninterrupted water and power supply. Health, Police, SDRF, and Fire & Emergency Services have been told to maintain readiness for rescue, relief, and medical emergencies.

​The advisory also provides emergency contact numbers for the public to report any incidents, including landslides or flash floods. The District Administration has reiterated that all resources are on standby to deal with any situation and has sought the public’s cooperation for community safety.
