Kulgam: In ongoing crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Kulgam Police have attached property belonging to a detained drug peddler under the provisions of Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The property, valued at approximately ₹61 lakh, belongs to Ghulam Rasool Dar, son of Late Abdul Rehman Dar, a resident of Vidoe Mishipora, Police Station Qaimoh. Dar is involved in FIR No. 62/2021 U/S 8/15-29 NDPS Act, in which 520 kilograms of poppy straw were recovered. The accused, the officials said, is presently detained under the Prevention of Illicit Trafficking in NDPS Act (PIT-NDPS) and lodged at Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu.
“The attached property has been identified as illegally acquired through proceeds of narcotics trafficking,” as per a media statement. “The attachment order was executed by a police team from Police Station Qaimoh in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and local residents, following a detailed investigation.”
This action, the statement says, is part of Kulgam Police’s sustained drive against drug trafficking, aimed at dismantling narcotic networks and cutting off financial channels supporting the illegal trade in the district.
Speaking on the development, SSP Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary (IPS), reaffirmed the police’s commitment to eliminating the drug menace. “We will continue to take strict action against all individuals involved in drug trafficking, including the attachment of properties acquired through narcotics proceeds, to break the drug supply chain and safeguard our youth,” he said.
Locals of the area have lauded the efforts of Kulgam Police for their decisive action against drug peddlers and for protecting the community from the growing menace of drugs.
Kulgam Police have in the meantime urged the general public to cooperate in the fight against drug abuse and to share any information regarding drug-related activities. The police assured that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
