Srinagar, Feb 2: The organisers of the Kashmir Super League (KSL) have expressed gratitude to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for acknowledging the league during his Republic Day address, calling the mention a significant morale boost for football and youth-centric sporting initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir.
As per a statement issued, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, lauded the successful conduct of the Kashmir Super League (KSL) during his Republic Day address at MA Stadium, Jammu, describing it as one of the most significant and impactful sporting events held in the region in recent years.
In his address on Republic Day (January 26), the Lieutenant Governor highlighted KSL as a shining example of how sports can energise youth, revive sporting culture, and unite communities. He remarked that “one of the biggest and most successful sporting events held last year was the Kashmir Super League (KSL)”, underlining the league’s scale, popularity, and organizational excellence.
Organised by FUCAN Sports, the Kashmir Super League was held in 2025 and featured franchise-based teams, a first-of-its-kind model for football in the region. The league attracted massive crowds and unprecedented fan engagement, with TRC Synthetic Stadium, Srinagar, witnessing packed stands and vibrant football atmospheres throughout the tournament.
The league not only brought high-quality competitive football back to Kashmir but also reignited passion among fans who had long awaited a professionally managed and commercially viable football competition.
The statement added that in recent years, football in Jammu & Kashmir has struggled due to the absence of major fan-centric tournaments, with the J&K Football Association failing to consistently deliver events that resonate with players and supporters alike. Against this backdrop, the Kashmir Super League emerged as a breather and lifeline for ailing football in Kashmir, restoring belief among players, fans, and stakeholders.
KSL stood out as the only major football event in Kashmir in 2025, and quickly became one of the most successful sporting events across all disciplines in the region.
The Lieutenant Governor’s public appreciation of the league during a nationally significant occasion is seen as a strong endorsement of KSL’s impact and success. His remarks serve as a testament to the league’s role in promoting sports, youth engagement, and positive social energy in the Valley.
The acknowledgment also reinforces the growing importance of private sports initiatives like KSL in shaping the future of football in Jammu & Kashmir.
