SRINAGAR: Khyber Cement has been awarded a prestigious 5-star rating by the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) for exemplary performance in sustainable mining, placing the company among the top 95 mines across India recognised for their environmental and social responsibility under IBM’s Sustainable Development Framework (SDF).
The award was presented during a national ceremony held at the Rajasthan International Centre in Jaipur. The event was attended by key dignitaries, including G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Coal and Mines; Bhajan Lal Sharma, Chief Minister of Rajasthan; Peeyush Narayan Sharma, Controller General In-charge, IBM; and Pankaj Kulshreshtha, Chief Controller of Mines, IBM.
Representing Khyber Cement at the ceremony were Riaz Trumboo, Director of Operations; Myser Khan, Chief of Mines; and Samiullah Sheikh, Technical Advisor – Mines. Their presence reflected the company’s strong operational ethos and leadership in sustainable mining.
IBM’s 5-star rating is awarded only to mines that score above 90 per cent across multiple parameters such as scientific mining practices, environmental performance, rehabilitation and resettlement, health and safety, welfare initiatives, and community engagement.
Out of over 1,250 mines assessed nationwide, only 95 achieved the 5-star distinction. Khyber Cement’s inclusion in this elite group underscores its consistent commitment to sustainability, innovation, and accountability in mining operations.
“This award reflects years of unwavering commitment, on-ground innovation, and operational discipline,” said Riaz Trumboo. “At Khyber Cement, green practices are a way of life. Receiving the 5-star rating reinforces that responsible industry practices and high performance can go hand in hand.”
Umar Trumboo, Director of Corporate & Strategy, added, “At Khyber Cement, sustainability is not a buzzword; it’s built into the DNA of how we operate. Winning this award is a proud milestone that inspires us to continue innovating while staying grounded in our responsibility towards nature and community.”
Myser Khan, Chief of Mines, emphasised the company’s integrated approach: “True sustainability is when operations, people, and the environment thrive together. This recognition pushes us to keep raising the bar, not just for ourselves but for the entire industry.”
Samiullah Sheikh, Technical Advisor – Mines, noted that the honour affirms the company’s values: “Khyber Cement has always stood for integrity, innovation, and impact. This recognition reflects the values we live by every day, where quality isn’t compromised, and responsibility is non-negotiable.”
Long respected for its ethical practices and environmental sensitivity, Khyber Cement’s manufacturing site stands out for its lush green surroundings, including lavender fields nurtured alongside industrial operations. The firm’s attention to ecological balance sets it apart as a rare example of environmentally conscious cement production.
With this latest accolade, Khyber Cement strengthens its position as a national role model in the cement and mining industry. As India moves towards greener models of industrialisation, Khyber Cement continues to demonstrate that performance and purpose can not only coexist but flourish together.
