Srinagar, Jan 25: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday expressed optimism about the Khelo India Winter Games being held on schedule this season, hoping that fresh snowfall will support timely conduct after last year’s postponement due to inadequate snow.
“Last year we had to postpone the Khelo India Games thrice, as there was no timely snowfall, but this year we received snowfall in Chilia Kalan, and with that we can organise the games in a better way,” CM Omar Abdullah said.
Speaking to reporters during his visit to Gulmarg, CM Omar Abdullah, as per the KNO, said the administration is committed to resolving technical snags in facilities, including the newly launched ski lift, to ensure smooth preparations for the Games. Highlighting snow’s role in boosting tourism and averting summer water scarcity, CM said more precipitation is expected soon, which is a positive sign.
He highlighted the importance of snowfall not only for tourism but also for supporting winter sports infrastructure, emphasising that adequate snow would benefit athletes and the local economy alike.
